Review of The Overnight (2015) by Brian S — 19 Jun 2015
A sex comedy that has enough restraint and plotting to make it closer to cerebral than smutty. Writer/director Patrick Brice has crafted an engaging quartet of characters, and applies a nuanced sense of chemistry to them throughout the film's libido-adventurous scenes.
The sense of build up in The Overnight is the most impressive feature though, as it fully allows audiences to go with the film's kinky material, as well as understand the tricky climax. Weird, relatable, and filled with enough sexual hijinks to make John Updike's corpse get a boner, The Overnight is a very welcome anti-date movie.
