Make sure you see the Director's cut! I read the book and enjoyed it but the theatrical version is mellow-dramatic crap. I don't understand why Coppola would go through the trouble of making this good quality film and then destroy it through production by cutting a shit-ton out.

It's disgraceful. If he were so damn good like they claim he is in the Godfathers, he'd have kept his original concept and not tampered with it 20 years later. I mean, what if we never came out with DVD's, then Coppola would be screwed! But setting that aside, the new cut is so much better.

The music in the old one gave it this retro feel which was ok for the time I guess, but really made some of the performances(such as Matt Dillon's) look campy. The new version highlights it better with more up-to-date music of what we would have heard in those times.

Like the book this movie is grossly accurate to how the times may have been social wise and so far I haven't seen any other that really matched it except for maybe American Graffiti. Don't miss out on this Coppola classic(the new cut, I mean).
