Review of The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) by Private U — 26 Aug 2008
The beauty of this movie is it's historical value. This isn't just some western about kickin ass in some "range war". It shows the holdouts from the "War of Northern Aggression" and the impact that the civil war had on the psycosis of Americans.
"You lyin' blue scumbelly!" The atrocities of war as evidenced by the red legs burning his damn house down and killin his family, are the motivation behind this sub-par farmer taking up his arms again.
Josie Wales was able to put the war behind him. Captain Terrell made the mistake of burning the wrong man's house down. The set-up is what makes this movie so great. Not just a shoot-em-up film. Josie has nothing left to live for but revenge.
"A man like Josie Wales lives by the feud." This movie has all the tactical precision of Goldeneye and the historical accuracy of Gone With The Wind. The Missouri Boat Ride has to be the best move of all time.
No detail escaped Clint.
