A movie about the last Confederate holdout after the Civil War. Along the way, he picks up an odd assortment of companions. This is an odd movie that grows on you and shows Eastwood's growing ability as a director.
Chief Dan George and John Vernon are excellent. Eventually, this is a story of redemption, as Wales, though no George Bailey, finds out that he has made a difference.
