Review of The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) by Senor C — 12 Sep 2010
Clint Eastwood stars & directs yet another great western which I think may be the best that he has taken on after the spaghetti's even though I haven't seen Unforgiven for awhile. After his family is killed Eastwood is hunted across country by 'Red Legs' Bill McKinney & John Vernon.
Damn John Vernon could have been in this more; I love movies w/ John Vernon in them. Along the way Eastwood runs into varied people including some Indians & Sonda Locke who is just about to get raped.
I started thinking about Sondra Locke starring in Eastwood movies in comparison to Jill Ireland starring in Charles Bronson movies. Bronson would never have let Ireland get her clothes ripped off exposing one of her breasts & her ass.
Could you see Ireland in Death Wish? I guess it's good to see Locke getting her nails dirty & have to give her more credit then I had before...Anyways Eastwood ends up gunning everyone down by the end; that's no real surprise but it's executed excellent.
Im actually surprised that the SPCA wasn't all over this considering the horse stunts & Eastwood spitting tobacco on that hound dog constantly.
