Review of The Others (2001) by Colson V — 03 Sep 2010
What is everybody smoking?!?!?! This was a TERRIBLE film! "The Others" is almost unbearably boring with it's lack of scares, and tedious repition. While the film centers around the family instead of the ghosts, the film doesn't provide any depth to these characters and at no point did I genuinely fear for their lives. There are movies like "Signs" which center around family and faith. But what differs amongst films like "The Others" and "Signs" is that the characters in "Signs" were interesting. While "Signs" may have a slow starter compared to the last few horror sequences, it sets up everything to make those last few sequences much more emotional than what they could have been.
That's not the case with "The Others". This family is unlikable and I would much rather see them get eaten by ghosts than to continue wacthing the bratty sister pick on the brother. This movie was a boring and tedious mess with an extremely predictable ending. Why people are liking this movie is beyond me.
