Review of The Other Woman (2014) by Francisco S — 29 Apr 2015
This was an entertaining movie, but it did not live up to its potential in the slightest. It was not as funny as it could and should have been, despite the fact that it did manage to get a few laughs out of me. For the most part, I watched it for the plot, and not for the laughs. That is not what you want out of a comedy.
Secondly, while it had the roots of a really empowering feminist movie, it doesn't quite make it there. All in all, it was entertaining, but ultimately a disappointment. The three girls may end up having fun together, but it's ultimately all about a man, and I don't know that there's much to it beyond that. In addition, the three girls are complete cliches, but not in a way that seems satirical or intentional. There's the dumb, young blond, the ruthless bitch lawyer, and the housewife. It would have been a much better movie if they had cashed in on more laughs and if the women had been more than just one dimensional.
