Review of The Other Side of the Wind (2018) by Brad R — 19 Nov 2018
This may be my favorite Welles film. The colors are straight out of the 1970s and the film, among many other things, is his take on psychedelia. The film within a film is a parody of an uncommercial mess of a film but it is also strikingly good and original.
John Huston is wonderful. Cameron Crowe apparently snuck on to the set. With Welles directing a film about a film that never got completed, and almost everyone on screen played versions of themselves, there is an ironic and humorous veracity.
Welles' girlfriend wrote in and performed a steamy and absolutely unique sex scene that Welles on his own probably never would have included. I am so happy to have seen a version of the improvised film that Welles never completed.
