Review of The Other Side of the Wind (2018) by Bob K — 27 Nov 2018
Brilliant. There's every type of movie that Welles could make here. A fantastic parody of European art film that looks as sharp and beautiful, enigmatic and pretentious as could be.
The rest of it is shot entirely differently. It's an Altman film of a party, mostly. Grainy, black and white, different ratio of 1.37/1. Like some Altman films, I honestly didn't follow everything being said, because they were fragments of conversations that started before the film, and continued afterward. I'm not sure how much was scripted, but sometimes it went like this:
"Hey beautiful, couldn't we fix it to see each other just a little less seldom?".
"With an old friend, it's quite enough to know he's there. In Gibralter...the Eiffel Tower.
Durability. Can be rather fragile.
Sometimes, to keep that feeling, we need to keep our distance.
The bad thing is to find out that the friendship was between a couple of other people.".
