I enjoy any movie with religious themes along with drama. And of course any movie that uses Heath Ledger's underused and under-appreciated talents I will watch it. It is not a perfect movie but it never claimed to be.
The movie makes sense from a simple drama/thriller movie. Do not make it into something it is not.
