Review of The Order (2003) by Wan A — 31 Dec 2003
For me, there's something very appealing about theological horror stories. I didn't know this movie is getting 8% when I saw it. I was going to give it a 50%. It's a lot of nonsense, there's no doubt about that. Especially when you start listening to the commentary. The writer/director comments proved that there's no other levels to this movie and that I was overrating it. Hence, 40%.
This movie makes me think why I'm having a weak knee over movies like this. The Omen is a superb one and I can tolerate the sequels than most people can.
It's not that I believe in God - as prescribed by the Catholic and Christian church. Maybe it's because I don't believe it the way they do and I want to mock them? Not really - I'm rooting for the heroes always, who're a big believer in the rituals and all that nonsense. I think it's the rules, rituals, and bureaucracies that interest me. Their world has a border. The rule is clear and the goal is set. Getting there is the mystery.
