Review of The Open House (2018) by Emily M — 09 Nov 2018
Netflix has given film fans a revival in some brilliant independent movies, sadly The Open House is not one of them. When Loganâ(TM)s beloved father dies in a fateful car crash, him and his mother, Naomi, fall on economic hard times. Unable to financially support herself and her teenage son, she moves into her sisterâ(TM)s reclusive mountain chalet home until they sell it. On Sundays, the pair had to leave the home until 5 pm so potential buyers can look around. When they returned, strange things started to happen, objects began to move around, loud noises and items went missing. They soon realized they were not alone and in the house with a sadistic killer. Living in the mountains there makes their chances of survival become more cat and mouse.
The Open House had the potential to be a good independent home invasion thriller, but with so many inconsistencies and lack of connection to any of the characters, it became tedious. It felt like the movie was trying too hard to be a home invasion, thriller and psychological at the same time.
