Review of The Onion Movie (2008) by Pat O — 16 Sep 2008
I've never read the actual website The Onion, I only visit their AV Club section which is one of my favorite sites. The film is pretty hilarious, it's like a funny episode of SNL. Various skits/ads about topics such as stereotypes, corporate sponsorship, pop stars, prison, peace, and action films (the real Steven Segal plays "Cockpuncher").
Amid all these skits, the film mainly centers on veteran anchorman Norm Archer whose integrity is on the line when he's forced to please a corporate sponsor on the air. Highly clever, I found myself laughing out loud during most of the segments which are so quotable.
One of the co-writers went on to write The Wrestler which shocked the hell outta me. Check this one out, I'm still laughing at some of the lines. "Taffy? Fucking blacks!".
