Review of The Onion Movie (2008) by Ali S — 25 Jul 2009
You know, I have enjoyed The Onion online for years. When they started posting videos, I thought it was still funny but lost something in the new medium. Now, as a movie, I think it really doesn't work.
There are certainly humourous skits but it lacked cohesion. This would be okay if it was just presenting itself as a series of skits but it tried to actually have a plot. It didn't try hard enough for it to actually work and I'm not sure why they bothered as it would have been better without it.
My other complaint is the lack of subtlety with the humour. I expected more from The Onion. A lot of the gags were much too predictable.
I did enjoy the cameos, especially Michael Bolton and I gathered a great term from it - "mighty puncher of cocks.".
