Review of The Omen (1976) by John E — 06 Mar 2011
Strong performances paired with Donner's directorial panache make this a horror film to remember. Together with "The Exorcist" these are the two great child horror films of the 70s. I really enjoyed the pained performance of Gregory Peck; the music is an incredibly paean to Satan and is a great example of music inextricably paired with the frightening image that burn into your mind.
It should be mentioned that this is not a strict horror film, but more of a horror thriller since there is some detective work carried out by our doubting hero. Films like these are great; they're timeless and continue to do their job: freaking out the audience.
The violent scenes are filmed with such precision and construction; they're just marvelous. Great entertainment!
