Review of The Omen (1976) by Uditha D — 27 Nov 2011
The Omen does have its share of inconsistencies - like since when did the American ambassador to Britain get to go around all those places Robert Thorn goes to without any official regalia or escort? - but like all good horror flicks, all these incompatibilities are thrown aside in favor of its authenticity.
The Omen never lacks that, not even for one second. Gregory Peck and Lee Remick are convincing in their roles, Billie Whitelaw is chilling as Mrs Baylock, and though he's no male heir to The Exorcist's Linda Blair, Harvey Stephen is also memorable as Damien.
And who could forget Jerry Goldsmith's score? Overall The Omen is a really memorable thriller, and one that doesn't dwell on too much detailing. It's simple, short and subtle. A definitive supernatural thriller in my view.
