Review of The Omen (1976) by Eytan D — 30 Jul 2012
Perhaps the scariest "creepy kid" flick since The Exorcist, The Omen is brilliant horror with great performances from the legendary Gregory Peck and Lee Remick as happy parents Robert and Katherine Thorn, who figure out that there is something undeniably wrong with their son Damien as gruesome accidents occur around them.
Injecting religious subject matter that just makes the film creepier, The Omen has a smart script with intelligent characters whose reactions to events in the film are completely believable. A major highlight of the film is Jerry Goldsmith's disturbing, Oscar-winning score.
Particularly gory in some parts (who can forget that decapitation scene?) but high on atmosphere and mood, The Omen is certainly a classic horror film whose downbeat and iconic ending still sends shivers down the spine.
