Review of The Omen (1976) by Stephen E — 09 Dec 2012
Most classic horror films simply aren't scary when looked at today, so it should come as a surprise that "The Omen" still has a few genuinely thrilling moments. It isn't a great film nor does it hold up well today, but it isn't quite as dated as you might think.
Jerry Goldsmith's Oscar-winning score helps make a lot of scenes tenser than they rightfully are and Billie Whitelaw's Mrs. Baylock is one creepy character, and "The Omen" ends up being one of the few horror classics that sort of lives up to its reputation, even if it is by no means a treasure of cinema.
Gregory Peck is virtually sleepwalking through his role.
