Review of The Omega Man (1971) by Aaron K — 19 Dec 2007
Seeing as we're going to be getting another film based on Richard Matheson's 'I Am Legend' I thought I'd revisit this film. Although in this case the film is only loosely based on the story, Charlton Heston plays Robert Neville a survivor of a plague that has killed off the majority of humanity, and the rest have turned into psychotic albinos.
Strangely enough all of these albinos have managed to find matching black robes and mirrored sunglasses to wear. The opening scene to the film is very well done as we see Heston driving through the empty streets of a city listening to some music, then we see Heston stop the car and we see a dark figure run past a window as Heston opens fire on them.
Why is the city deserted and who was the strange figure are questions that are answered through some flashbacks scenes as the film progresses. Overall it's a good enough film, but it would have been a better story if it had been a bit closer to the original story.
