Review of The Omega Man (1971) by Matthew S — 27 Mar 2010
I should probably read the book "I am Legend" before watching any more movies based on it. I have now seen this and the newest adaptation with Will Smith. I must say, while this one is inferior in acting, cinematography, effects, and art direction, at least it sticks to the story it tells throughout.
I think quite a bit could have been done to improve the story, though, like filling in some plot holes and getting everything to mesh right. For example, the Family is supposed to despise light and only be able to see in the dark, yet almost every set is lit very brightly.
Making night actually look dark would have added a lot to the film. But nitpicking aside, it wasn't bad and kept me interested the whole time.
