Review of The Omega Man (1971) by Trevor N — 26 Apr 2008
Legendary film actor Charlton Heston plays Robert Neville who is the last man on earth. Sounds familiar I know because I Am Legend was a redo of The Omega Man thats why. This film was very much different in alot of ways.
One thing was that the film was produced in 1971 which meant not much could've been done with the film at that time. Locations couldn't be fully shut down to make them look completely deserted and also the monsters themselves were very plain.
In this version Neville takes on the occult who is ran by this leader who for 2 years wanted to get at Neville for using his technology against them. In this film we don't see fast running vampires or stuff like that. Instead we get pale cut up people who have white eyes and wear dark robes and do worship.
I thought I was going to get something on the lines of I Am Legend. After first glance when Neville took on the crazed people I thought it was going to be lame but to my very surprise it wasn't at all. I really liked this film and find it to be a true sci fi classic.
