Review of The Odd Couple (1968) by Steven L — 22 Mar 2010
Lemmon and Mauthau are magic together. The story is good. The script is good. The directing not so bad, but the duo (Lemmon especially) are on fire funny. They made this good material shine.
Lemmon is compulsively clean and Mauthau a slob and they are both getting divorced so why not live together? What could go wrong? Even the semi suicidal element of the Felix character doesn't ruin the mood. This movie works better than it should and is just damn entertaining.
