Review of The Odd Couple (1968) by Ethan T — 02 Apr 2011
I usually enjoy a good stage play brought to the big screen, and Neil Simon's The Odd Couple is a prime example. It's less about plot and more about the interaction of two perfectly cast character actors, Lemmon and Matthau.
The film is at its best in the long sequences like the two minute shot in which Oscar dashes to the kitchen to make cocktails for the dishy English girls he and Felix are entertaining. He leaves the room with the girls in fine giggly form, but by the time he returns Felix's sob story has reduced all three to sobbing wrecks.
What a passion killer!
