Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Michelle F — 04 Jun 2011
This movie went on a little too long. The characters were a bit cheesy and stereotypical. While Johnny Depp did his best, the rest of the film really wasn't all that great. This wasn't very scary at all; however, it is classified as a "thriller.
" The ending didn't make sense, and too many questions were left unanswered. The most interesting thing was that in the special features, we are told that Johnny Depp's character is supposed to be one we dislike from the beginning of the film.
We are even supposed to think he is a villian, yet I didn't get that at all. I thought he was likeable from the beginning. This movie would have been much better if not for the slow-moving plot, the absurd characters, and the inability to follow through with the goals expressed in the special features.
I definitely won't be recommending this to anyone.
