Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Hellholehorror — 12 May 2023

I didn't know much about this film going into it. Maybe that was a good thing as I wasn't expecting anything. The thing that bothered me the most was that the special effects didn't fit into the film, the green screen looked jarring and bad and some of the other effects were distracting.

A small gripe but took me out of the experience nonetheless. What I did like was the relatively simple story, engaging and well acted characters, great pacing and style. The ending was a little disappointing.

The writing is great. Overall enthralling and interesting although probably not something I'd watch often. A surprising pleasure.
