Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Whoever81 — 17 Apr 2020
A rare dark gem. Slow-burning, haunting, mysterious. One of the most gripping, atmospheric thrillers I have ever seen and I've seen many. A technical masterpiece that sticks with you. The ending is indeed somewhat underwhelming and abrupt.
Still, one of my all time favorite thrillers. I can only assume that the low "Critic" scores have at least something to do with the name Polanski.
