Review of The Nines (2007) by Andy L — 30 Jun 2008
I hate to think of the existential crises John August must have gone through in his early career if The Nines is largely autobiographical.
If you dislike open-ended movies, this is not the film for you. There are no attempts to explain or justify the bizare twists in the plot or the abrupt ending, but the movie is infinitely better for it.
While much deeper than most of his movies, Ryan Reynolds delivers a flawless performance and both Hope Davis and Melissa McCarthy are predictably wonderful.
Save this movie for a time when you have a few spare hours to contemplate existance, the physical/metaphysical ramifications of seemingly meaningless actions and the impact of your life on the world.
