Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Adrian B — 21 Aug 2010
The Night of the Hunter is one of the most wonderful films that I have ever seen. It is incredibly frightening and loses very little edge. Throughout the film, when the children are chased by the psychotic reverend (Mitchum), your praying for their escape and home they do not reach the same fate as their poor mother (Winters).
Lilian Gish, as the one who takes them into her custody is amazing, and Mitchum is not only great, but fascininating, with the role of the lifetime. One of the most beautiful films I have ever seen, and one the most scariest films of all time, and definately the 1950's.
