Extremely underrated masterpiece of cinema directed by the great actor Charles Laughton, who sadly never directed another film. I am actually offended that this film isn't ranked in AFI's top 100 but not all that surprised.
It is dark and non-traditional, but it is also brilliant. Lillian Gish plays one of my all-time favorite characters and Robert Mitchum was never more evil-not even Max Cady from Cape Fear.
