Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Sam C — 12 Aug 2008
Now *this* is how you direct a movie. Cinematography, acting, music, sound design, costume design, and screenplay all come together under the genius of Charles Laughton to portray a haunting fairy tale about the battle between innocence and evil. It works perfectly until the last couple minutes, when it all goes off the rails. Still, after watching this I found myself wondering how anyone ever managed to make a good movie in color. (Considering that I'm in my 20s, that's quite a compliment.).
The presence of Jim Phelps was an added bonus.
