Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Mark I — 17 Nov 2010
"I can feel myself getting awfully mad." This creepy thriller about a psychotic preacher (the terrifying Robert Mitchum) and his hunting of two misplaced children plays like a modern Grimm's Fairy Tale.
It's a dream, or a nightmare observed by all creation as rabbits, frogs, turtles, owls, etc bear witness to the children's harrowing journey from terror. Actor turned one-time director Charles Laughton drapes the picture in otherworldly shadow and concocts several stunning images that you soon won't forget; Night of the Hunter is a must not be missed classic.
