So iconic and influential that it's hard to rate on an enjoyment level, because of how dated it is. The child actors are terrible, but Robert Mitchum is fantastic, as is Lillian Gish. Dark and literary with some beautiful, eerie cinematography and music. Its content must have been edgy for its time.
