Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Randall A — 12 May 2011
Powerful filmmaking, both suspenseful and at times surreal. Beautiful cinematography that at certain points in the film seemed to be influenced by Japanese cinema of the same era. I'm surprised this was the only film Laughton directed considering how strong it is.
I'm pretty sure this film was a major influence in the making of Cape Fear. In my opinion Robert Mitchum's best work as an actor. Currently my favorite movie of 1955.
