Review of The Nice Guys (2016) by Mark B — 08 Feb 2017
I've been watching Shane Black movies for decades. Some are spectacular (Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, Kiss Kiss/Bang-Bang, The Long Kiss Goodnight) and some are shitfests (Iron Man 3, The Last Action Hero, RoboCop 3, Predators).
This is in-between, but definitely disappointing. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Crowe and Gosling, the '70's Los Angeles setting and the soundtrack. Beyond that, there's not much here that wasn't already touched upon in both the first Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss/Bang-Bang.
Detective story, moments of mirth, moments of grisly violence, multiple plot twists at the end and roll credits. *Yawn*. You have been warned.
