Review of The Nice Guys (2016) by Ryan B — 18 Jun 2018
I have no idea how a movie with decent marketing and stars like Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe was so criminally under-seen. The Nice Guys is a hysterically raunchy, buddy-cop movie that might be more rewatchable than anything else I saw this year. The chemistry between Crowe and Gosling was so engaging that I just want more. I don't think the movie had enough to financial success to warrant a sequel, but if this movie spun off into a Netflix series or some other longer form, I would be thrilled. I just need more of the two of them, together. Keep your eyes on Angourie Rice, as well. The Aussie actress who plays Gosling's daughter already landed a role in this year's Spiderman: Homecoming. I think she has a bright future ahead.
Written and directed by Shane Black (who also wrote one of my all-time favorites, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) this movie is smart and witty and so much fun, I implore you to see it.
