Review of The New World (2005) by Cole M — 03 Apr 2009
Tediously and butt-numbingly too long and boring (as most Terrence Malick movies are), it still tells the Pocahontas story as it should've been told not with zippy showtunes and highly sexualized Pocahontas but the story of colonialism, of civilization vs. civilization, and the power of love.
The musical score is dream-like and what Terrence does with just the reflection of water paints a surrealist canvass.
