Review of The New World (2005) by Alice C — 08 Feb 2010
The screenplay master Terrence Malick is back with more material after the great The Thin Red Line movie.
The New World's story can be summed up by saying it is Pocahontas with real actors, yes there are few small variations but nothing to shout about. The cast is good so we have all the major elements needed for a epic New World movie, but something is a miss. The screenplay is absolutely stunnign yet the characters are shallow even if best effort is put into giving them an artistic feeling and deep characteristics. The lack of action and the fact that the characters do not really grow on to you keep this movie from matching The Last of the Mohicans and Dances With Wolves. Good movie which could have been great with more aggressive usage of characters at hand.
