Review of The New World (2005) by Tanvir K — 29 May 2011
Treads too familiar of territory for Malick. Feels like an extended version of The Thin Red Line with less action and different production design. A lot of similar or related themes are present in the two films but they were more effective in the previous film.
The performances are good, especially Kilcher's. It's beautiful as are all Malick's films, but at 2hrs and 50 minutes long, it overstays it's welcome. There simply isn't enough narrative to keep me interested.
