Review of The New World (2005) by Ric M — 21 Mar 2012
Malick always gets blasted for not pushing the plot forward or lingering too much. However, this land is so beautiful, it's good to have the relaxed style. And to be fair, he did tack on a romance between Pocahontas and John Smith to appeal to a wider audience (not really, this is not "Titanic"), so you can't fault him.
I just saw the extended cut, and it's basically a even bigger canvas for his poetry to unfold. Absolutely love it.
