Review of The New Daughter (2009) by Rachell P — 20 May 2010
It's derivative and probably could have been paced better and a bit edgier, but it's not all bad. It delivers what you'd expect - a low budget, simple thriller. The cast is the movie's strongest suit, as Costner can pull off pretty much anything, and Ivana Baquero of Pan's Labyrinth fame does a solid job.
Berdejo, one of the co-writers of the original [Rec] and not exactly a stranger to the horror/thriller genre, doesn't do a bad job either in what I believe is his first full-length directing job. The movie drags too much in spots, but he does pretty much what he can with the script provided.
It's a movie that will probably get lost in the shuffle, but it's certainly watchable if you're a fan of the genre or anyone involved.
