Review of The New Daughter (2009) by Robin H — 24 Aug 2010
Kevin Costner in a horror-thriller, as a single dad who moves up into the woods with his young son and teenage daughter. Who'd have thought it might actually work, when it's so clichéridden? Well, Costner's actually not that bad, he never goes overboard Nicolas Cage-style, and the key role of the film, his daughter, is played by Ivana Baquero who already proved her acting chops in Pan's Labyrinth. There's also some beautiful photography in this.
Possible spoilers: warning for burial mounds, single fathers, monsters, a daughter going through changes (puberty?), an understanding schoolteacher, a little boy who senses the evil, small towns, rumors, a family pet that goes missing and any other cliché you could want.
