Review of The New Daughter (2009) by Gypsypeach — 16 Sep 2014
I originally watched this in a psychology class which was the only thing that makes it a 1...
This is because, in a class room..... everyone is making fun of how BAD the story is, how ridiculous the characters are, and all of the people actively analyzing the characters within it in a playful silly fashion. It was enjoyable if only because no one was really watching the movie or paying the terrible plot or lifeless characters much attention beyond the analytical, trying to figure out what's psychologically wrong with these people, focus. We were more focused on each other and talking about all the things that were wrong with it (and the characters) as we went along and that part was enjoyable.
Likewise, I watched it again with a couple of people and it was in a different setting and therefore much less enjoyable because I was actually watching the plot, the really slow dragging lack of story and to compare it to Oculus like another user in the comments, Oculus was a movie that was too busy sniffing its own butt pretending to be clever. This was a movie that picked it's butt and ate the **** because it liked the taste.
If you are catholic, you'll probably have to go to confession for watching this and the priest will probably tell you there are not enough hail marys and our fathers to help/forgive you. If you go to one of those people who 'slaps the devil' out of people....their slapping arm will probably catch on fire. If you haven't gotten the picture of how bad it is, you might enjoy it! If you get the gist in that this is a horrible movie (possibly fun if you want to torture someone you don't like or send a mysterious evil gift etc but that's different and useful in terms of what you want in that case) then you're smart enough to not enjoy it....
