The concept of "nothingness" being a bad guy is intriguing, and the film gets a couple other things right here and there, however a lot of the movie is set in the "random series of events" trope that prevailed in 80's fantasy.
The framing story is an interesting element even if the whole thing doesn't work as well as it probably should.
