Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Amy W — 22 Jan 2013
This is one of my most favorite movies and a treasured memory that will never be tainted. I remember wishing to be Bastian and acting out Atreyu scenes so many times when I was young, it became my story.
And that's the magic of this movie as well as the source novel. Unfortunately it was the huge success upon release as it should have been. Even though the movie feels complete, the book's story is much bigger.
This movie covers the first half of the book which is fine since the book is very clearly split up into 2 stories. Being that it wasn't a massive hit, Wolfgang Peterson and company never got a shot to finish the story.
I don't know if they planned on it, but it Hollywood, eyes are always on the lookout for potential franchises. I had the pleasure of seeing this on the big screen again a few nights ago. Thank you Silent Movie Theater and a big thanks to the Cinefamily for screening it.
I look forward to many more of your screenings. CINEFAMILY, look it up, they rule.
