Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Sean F — 29 Dec 2016
The Neon Demon was truly unlike anything I have ever seen before in all of cinematic history. It was visually stunning, auricularly mesmerizing, and just an experience unlike any other.
Every time I watch this film I enjoy it more. So that in itself finally deserves my rating of 5 stars.
I first gave this film a 4 after seeing it a second time, third time had me almost at a 4.5, but currently, I have to say this is probably my favorite film of the year right next to Arrival. It was so groundbreaking with its exploration of how narcissism is celebrated instead of disapproved upon. I love how I am able to find more and more layers of meaning each time I view this film once again. This time around I noticed even more foreshadowing that I hadn't even picked up on before, and I love the cultish witch/vampire like atmosphere that is implied but not explicitly displayed. A truly unique film that I can't compare to anything else, one that inspires me to this day and will forever haunt me.???
