Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Matt B — 06 Sep 2016
The Neon Demon is a surreal horror movie that delves into the world modeling. Initially I was dying to see this movie but I was very disappointed after it was all said and done. There are themes of petty jealousy, inadequacy, and youth boiling around in this movies gut.
, however I feel as if many of them are very obvious and played out. People in the fashion industry are obsessed with beauty and youth, who knew?? on the other hand this film boasts some absolutely gorgeous cinematography and one scene in which our main character, Jesse, hears the girl in the next hotel room to her being murdered, which chilled me to the core.
I think that the reason I didn't enjoy it is that I felt as if the shocks aren't shocking enough, and the trips aren't trippy enough to hold this very fluid and sluggish plot. This one wasn't for me but always see for yourself!
