Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Jacob S — 09 Jul 2016
This film feels like a worthy hybrid of Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" and David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive." It is fun, brutal, visceral, brilliantly acted/cast, beautifully shot, and serves as a meditation on both jealousy and what our culture comodifies.
Most importantly, it's a return to form for Nicholas Winding Refn, whose previous film, "Only God Forgives" is abysmal, and after the brilliance of "Bronson," "Drive," and The Pusher Trilogy, we fans were looking for another hit from this great Dane!
