Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by David B — 27 Apr 2017
The best way to describe The Neon Demon is all style, no substance. It's hard to deny that visually, The Neon Demon looks great and it contains retro soundtrack that matches the style perfectly, exactly what you would expect from Nicolas Winding Refn.
Unfortunately the films plot is so lightweight and the characters are so underdeveloped that the films just falls apart as a piece of entertainment. It's such a shame as the cut-throat world of LA fashion could have made an interesting basis for a horror film but with such uninteresting characters and next to nothing going on, this isn't achieved here.
