Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Ellen D — 27 Jun 2016
As mesmerizing as it is confusing, The Neon Demon is a aesthetically beautiful movie that is pleasing to the eye even though the character motivations are thin and the third act unravels a bit. The score and tone of the movie create a truly unique experience.
The acting is fine while the dialogue feels awkward and clunky at times, although the this feels intentional. Certain characters are two-dimensional and are not given enough to do. Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves are barely in the movie.
This is a niche film that will satisfy those who enjoy dark, violent, sexualized films but is not recommended for the average movie-goer.
