Review of The Negotiator (1998) by Ahmad M — 09 Mar 2012
At first glance, The Negotiator is exactly what it seems; an easy action/thriller with little thinking required for enjoyment. But that assessment doesn't give the film much credit. Samuel L. Jackson is the perfect actor to fill the role of Danny Roman--a threatened cop who will do whatever he needs to in order to clear his name of a crime he didn't commit.
On the other hand, logical, thorough Kevin Spacey is the perfect answer to Roman--Chris Sabian. Together, the duo create a mood of intensity that puts the viewer on the edge of his or her seat. Paul Giamatti serves as a great comic relief, and the team of baddies, while stereotypical, are fun to watch.
I love the movie for the action, but also for the great actING by Spacey and Jackson. This movie is tense, funny, awesome, and an all around great watch. I recommend it to anyone who loves action/thriller flicks.
